Double and electric bass player, composer
Manfred Bründl studied from 1980-1985 at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz a combined course of classical and jazz music. Between 1983 and 1985 he was a member of Heinz Sauer's quartet; afterwards he worked with Albert Mangelsdorff, Norma Winstone, Terumasa Hino, Martial Solal, Herb Ellis, Charlie Mariano, Christof Lauer, Dave Liebman, Walter Norris, Craig Harris, Phil Wilson, Aldo Romano, Bill Elgart and Wayne Krantz as well as with numerous musicians the Austrian scene such as Fritz Pauer, Harry Pepl, Leo Wright or Erich Kleinschuster.
Bründl has been leading his own groups since 1987, initially “Brüma, Brüma” with Matthias Schubert, Bob Degen and Janusz Stefanski. In his group “Basslab” he recorded the album “Live” (1992) with Schubert, Simon Nabatov and Barry Altschul. He has toured Africa, Asia, Canada and Latin America on behalf of the Goethe Institute. He also had a trio with Tomasz StaÅ„ko and Michael Riessler. In 1995 he founded the Hessische Art Ensemble Wiesbaden, which explored the transition to New Music and performed Bründl's cycle "Color Light Sounds". In that year he also received the Jazz Prize of the City of Frankfurt am Main. In 1999 he founded the crossover ensemble Composers Orchestra. He played the music for the film My Brother the Idiot (2000) with Till Brönner. In 2012 he performed with John Tchicai, Conny Bauer and Günter “Baby” Sommer, among others.
The CD " Respect " by his group Silent Bass was nominated for the German Record Award. In 2007 he reformed Silent Bass and now played with Hugo Read, Achim Kaufmann and Jonas Burgwinkel; The band's CD " Crosshatched " (2008) also features the singer Liisi Koikson and Wolfgang Schlueter. Tours to Estonia followed at the invitation of the Goethe Institute. The CD "Crosshatched" was awarded in 2008 by Deutschlandfunk as the best German jazz album of the broadcast year 2008. 2009 to 2010 workshops, concerts, festivals ao in Budapest, Tallinn, Salerno (Martucci Jazz Festival, Villa Guariglia Vietri Sul Mare). In September 2011 the formation with Hugo Read, Rainer Böhm and Jonas Burgwinkel released the album " Tip of the Tongue, A Tribute to Peter Trunk ", a homage to Peter Trunk and his time. The CD brings together eleven compositions by Bründl that pay tribute to Peter Trunk in a variety of ways. The bassist, who died in 1973 in an accident, was one of the leading jazz musicians of the 1950s and 60s. Bründl received the SWR Jazz Prize in 2012.
From 2013 she made guest tours to Hungary (Budapest Jazz Club) and Italy, festival appearances at the Sopot Jazz Festival 2014 with Grzegorz Nagórski (tb), Kalman Olah (piano) and Klemens Marktl (drums), duo with Janusz Stefanski (drums), Michael Küttner - Trio (Michael Küttner, drums & Hugo Read, sax), festival appearances of the trio BrüDaer with Carsten Daerr (piano), 2016 new formation of the band Silent Bass New Edition with Hugo Read (sax) and Rainer Böhm (piano).
2017 Participation in the Tbilisi meets Berlin festival in Georgia.
2018 foundation of the new band DOUBLE IMAGE . The DOUBLE IMAGE concert program is being created on the occasion of its 40th stage anniversary.
2020 Foundation of the German-Georgian music and dance project SAMAIA, funded by the Federal Foreign Office, with guest performances in Germany and Georgia.

Manfred Bründl is the initiator and artistic director of the world's first transcultural jazz prize, the ACHAVA Jazz Award, which was awarded for the first time on 9.9.2017 under the umbrella of the Achava Festival in the Erfurt heating plant.
Bründl has been the artistic director of the International Jazz Mile Workshop since 1999, which takes place annually at the Weimar University of Music.
Bründl was a lecturer at the University of Mainz from 1989 to 1996.
Since 1996 he has been teaching as a professor at the FRANZ LISZT Weimar University of Music.
